Being “Suddenly Senior”

Frank Kaiser and his wife, finding they were now “redundant” in retirement decided to do something meaningful.  Finding that good information on all aspects of retirement was scarce, they created “Suddenly Senior” to help others and themselves.  It gave a bit more meaning to daily life, and the contribution to their fellow retirees was very substantial.  Frank’s Web site and e-mail newsletter are excellent, providing commentaries and infomation in a variety of topics needed and enjoyable by “seniors”.

If you or a member of your family is in the ranks of the retired, this is well worthwhile to review.   The Web site is www.suddenlysenior.com.   For example, in a recent newsletter, a program called “Extra Help” was discussed.  This allows retirees at low income and low resources (single – $16,245 income max; cash & investment resources $12,510 max — married, $21,885 and $25,010 respectively) to cover some drug and Medicare Part D expenses, often with great savings.  The program, with typical government logic, is under Social Security, not Medicare.  Go to www.ssa.gov to apply, and go to Suddenly Senior for more information on this and other issues for retirees.
